Beer Reserves 2:0 St Martin’s Reserves Beer Reserves were good value for a sixth win of the season that moves them six points clear of the Division Five drop zone.

Boss Ross Moughton said: “It was a significant factor that we were able to field our strongest team of the season. We played very well as a unit and fully deserved to win.”

With Phil Arbourn persuaded to make a rare appearance and Luke Bartlett, who was not able to make the Beer 1st team game and therefore able to play for the Reserves, the Fishermen were the better side throughout.

Bartlett put them one up at the break with a route-one goal. Keeper Mike Westlake launched the ball up-field and Bartlett controlled it before firing past the Saints keeper.

The second came later in the game when an Ed Busby corner was turned into his own net by an unfortunate Saints defender. Sam Wyatt, who put in a fine shift in defence, was the Beer Man of the Match.

The Beer senior side went down 3-1 at title chasing St Martin’s. Adam Wakeley put the Fishermen into a first half lead, but three second half goals turned the game in favour of the home side.

On Saturday Beer’s 1st team entertain Clyst Valley whilst the Reserves are without a league game.
