AVR athlete Austin second in her category at the 2014 Exeter First Chance event

The Exeter First Chance 10K was a victim to the horrendous weather conditions of the past week with the start pushed back an hour to allow for the river Exe to drain off the paths a bit, writes Dave Mutter.
Even then the race was held in torrential rain and a wicked cross wind.
However, Carol Austin breezed around to finish second W50, 130th overall out of 465 in 44:01, just four seconds behind the first W50.
Jane Calvert made a rare running appearance and did well to beat the hour barrier, finishing 368th in 58:04.
Many thanks, to South West Road Runners for their organisational skills under such testing conditions.
