The only AVR in action this week was Sue Venn who, after a gap of three years, ran the Dartmoor Vale Half and had forgotten just how tough it was with lots of hills, one in particular roughly around the six- mile point that was a steep climb for 1.5-miles, writes Dave Mutter.

Sue had to walk that one! Once over the top she overheard a spectator say: “Well done, the worst is over.”

The spectator was not quite right!

The last 2.5-miles was flattish, but after doing all those hills, even the flat was hard going and Sue almost crawled over the line in 2:14:54, over two minutes slower than in 2012, but that doesn’t matter; it was a great time considering how hard the course was.
