AVR members Geoff Woodward and Steve Reynolds made the trip to Pensilva for the Cornish Marathon that travels across the moors to Jamaica Inn then follows the river Fowey for six miles and finally there’s a tough undulating last four miles, writes Dave Mutter.

Steve shot off in front of Geoff as a result of stopping at Subway for breakfast that worked out well for him, but not Geoff!

After finally casting aside said breakfast, Geoff set off in pursuit of Steve catching him at mile 23.

Both had a bit of a battle until a bout of cramp for Steve on the last hill enabled Geoff to open a gap.

Steve pulled a bit back on the final downhill, but Geoff came in first in 3:59:11 with Steve just 10 seconds adrift.

Both were chuffed to get in under four hours on a testing course in wet and windy conditions. They left wearing their bright yellow race hoodies looking like a pair of overweight budgies.
