AVR enjoy great success at Woodland Relay on Woodbury Common

AVR won two of the categories at last week’s Woodland Relay, writes Dave Mutter.
This is an annual event between five local clubs; AVR, Honiton, Sidmouth, Met Office and the Exmouth Harriers.
This year’s race was a challenging three-by 2.5 mile course on Woodbury Common.
The fastest team, thereby winning the senior men’s race, was AVR’s Not So Old Men Garry Perratt, Tim Lenton and Liam Roberts who completed it in 45:32.
AVR’s Ladies’ A team of Amy Greenhalgh, Eleanor Wood and Carol Austin won the senior ladies’ race in 57:45.
The Old Men team of Mark Hilder, Richard Hale and Robin Britton were just outsprinted to finish second in the Male Vets’ (over-50) race in 1:00:32.
The Ladies’ B team of Heather Lowman-Riggs, Lesley Adams and Amy Greenhalgh (again), were sixth lady team in a time of 1:08:20, and the Odd Men team of John Blackledge, John Greenhalgh and Chris Keeffe) were eighth in the men’s section on 58:32.
The AVR Juniors’ A team of Ollie Caute, Bobby Simpson and William Blackledge were second in the boys’ race and the B team of William Blackledge (again), Adam Burrough and Max Bowskill, were third.
Despite claiming relative unfitness, Liam Roberts was fastest man by a long way in 14:15; Tim Lenton was second-fastest AVR and probably overall in 15:29 from which you can work out the time of the Not So Old Men’s weakest link!
Amy Greehalgh was second fastest lady in 17:46 (and only five seconds slower on her second run which was either impressive or suggested that she didn’t run hard enough the first time around!).
