Six AVRs took part in the Forest Flyer, a five‘ish’-mile trail race through Haldon Forest that attracted 170 hardy runners mostly from other Devon running clubs, writes Dave Mutter.

After a wet start to Friday, it brightened to a lovely evening, giving perfect running conditions and clear skies for the great views across Devon. AVR’s Jake Smith came in first place in 25:15, surprising everyone at the finish line and almost two-and-a-half minutes ahead of the second placed runner. He was rewarded with a bottle of wine and a voucher for a pub meal. Tony Smith and Carol Austin ran together with Tony coming in 81st, 41:36 and Carol, 82nd in 41:38, and also finishing as first W55. Angela Kerr was 118th, 46:27, Martin Kerr 153rd, 53:46 and Denise Burgess, 163rd in 59:30.
