It has certainly been an amazing two weeks for AVR member and Cardiff Met student Jake Smith, writes Dave Mutter.

Following on from achieving the best Parkrun time anywhere in the world last Saturday at Exmouth Parkrun – in an incredible 14:21 – Smith was third in a top class field at the Cardiff 10k where he smashed his PB and broke the 30-minute barrier, finishing in 29:30.

The aptly named Vicious Westwood Weasel lived up to expectations for the 106 finishers as they reflected on the steep hills and difficult descents along the 8-mile course in the Wentford Forest near Chepstow.

The forest trail twists along stony tracks with a deep water crossing before the final unwelcome climb uphill to the finish.

Richard Hale completed in a good time of 1:26:10 in 49th place, third MV65. Teas and cakes later in the village hall made for a perfect September morning.
