AVR member Clare Hansford travelled to Weymouth to compete in her first triathlon, a classic distance event of 1500m sea swim, 40 km cycle and 10 km run organised by Bustinskin events, writes Dave Mutter.
A mass start of 122 competitors for the swim meant for a brutal start, but clearer water eventually led Clare achieving a time of 28:44 min for this phase.
The undulating out and back bike course took one hour and 17 minutes and then, on very tired legs, with temperatures rising, the run took an exhausting 49:17 min.
Clare was delighted to finish 51st overall, 10th lady and first vet 50 in 2:37:15.
