AVR member Clare Hansford travelled to Swanage to compete in the standard distance triathlon at this well organised and beautifully positioned event, writes Dave Mutter.
In a field of 170 competitors Clare was very pleased to finish 71st overall, eight lady and first V50 in her second attempt at this distance.
The 1500m-swim in a calm Swanage bay took 30:54, an undulating 40km-bike 1:21:19, and a stunning, but brutal, 10km-run up Purbeck ridge in 51:22, gave Clare a finishing time of 2:46:21.
Meanwhile, three AVRs contested the 5-mile Shaves Cross mini marathon, a scenic mixed terrain race in the Marshwood Vale including a nice ascent up to the foot of Pilsdon Pen with a dash on undulating ground to finish.
Kevin Feeney was the first AVR home in 41:39 followed by David Cooke 43:00 and Sarah Shepley 46:35.
