On Saturday morning AVR’s Luke Reed left home at 4.30am for a trip to Bournemouth to compete in the Votwo Salty Sea Dog Triathlon, which started at 7am to beat the tourists heading to Boscombe Beach, writes Dave Mutter.

The race consisted of a 750m sea swim which was actually clocked closer to 1000m. Luke completed this section in 17:38, then onto a 20k out and back for a two-loop bike ride which he finished in 42:56 then onto the flat 5k run which Luke ground out a very credible time of 19:28.

This gave him an overall time of 1:21:38 and 18th place in a strong field of 166 finishers.

Another AVR athlete, Patrick Devine-Wright, ran the annual Brecon Beacon’s Fell Race on Saturday in good clear warm weather - his first race since completing the SW Coast Path a few months ago.

The run is a classic 18-mile circuit of the Welsh mountains with 4500ft climb, and he finished 12th in a time of three hours and 24 minutes.
