The Devon County Ladies’ Vets held their annual Killard Leavy Trophy and Autumn Foursomes at Axe Cliff, writes Dave Bruce.

The event was most efficiently run by Barbara Cummings, captain for Devon Vets, and her team. A gusty wind certainly made play interesting!

However, a team from Saunton, who had never played at Axe Cliff, conquered it with 42 points to win the trophy.

In the Autumn Foursomes, home players Sandra Walker and Barbara Cummings came second with 35 points while Caroline Bond and Stella Thompson, with 33 pts, were beaten into fourth place on countback.

Last Wednesday, the ladies played another round of the County Prize, a stableford competition. After a dry start, the drizzly rain affected most of the players, but not Jill Wellington, winning with 38 points and getting cut as a result. It was good to see two of our newest members, Jo Hopwood and Paula Heasman, taking second and third places with 36 and 34 points respectively.
