Axe Cliff seniors contested the Founders Trophy on another hot day that saw the ball running a fair distance on a very dry course, writes Dave Bruce.
The format was a Medford with the first nine holes played as a medal with your shots taken off so you get a nine hole medal score.
The second nine is then played as a stableford and the total points for the nine are then taken off the first nine’s medal score, leaving a nett Medford score.
Neil Moorcraft was the overall winner with an amazing nett 16 score, closely followed by Adrian Bishop (17) and Peter Hornsby, showing a good return to form, (18).
Alan Morgan and Peter Hornsby scored twos on the short par three 11th and Steve Gibson had a two on the difficult seventh with a fantastic putt, but the best two came from Mick Tomes with a great drive to the long, par three 14th – leaving a putt that even Gilbert Cox would have got, given the chance, of course!
