Playing in the Axe Cliff Niblick, barman Phil Hellier hit the best five wood of his life when, on the 278-yard hole six, he recorded a stunning hole-in-one.

That has led to him now being affectionately known as ‘the beast from the bar’!

The event was won by Simon Matthews with Richard Gibbons, keeping up his good form, taking second place and being closely followed by Tom Spencer, who finished third.

The May medal saw some excellent scores with Paul Clode, in great form, winning Division One with a nett 68 from Stuart Mackie, who took second with a fine nett 71, showing his Emerton Court win at Thurlestone with Tony Strong was well earned. Chris Glover took third place with a nett 73.

Division Two also saw some credible results with captain Dave Morgan taking top spot with a nett 72, but only on countback from well known senior, but not related, Alan Morgan, leaving third spot to Steve Reed, also on nett 72 but worst countback.

Paul Clode grabbed a couple of two’s with Mike Chadwick and Stuart Mackie managing one two each.
