Last week the Axe Cliff team travelled to Great Torrington on a very humid day with soaring temperatures, writes Dave Bruce.

They battled hard, but lost by a score of nine points to six. On the same day two members travelled to Stadden Heights where our lady captain, Caroline Bond, played excellently to take second position in her division and finish third overall.

The following day, back at home, Caroline still had the strength to take second granny spot in the stableford granny and non-granny competitions with 34 points. However, the top granny on this occasion was Stella Thompson with a score of 36 points with Sandra Walker taking third spot with 31.

Just for a change this year we had more non-grannies than grannies.

Top non-granny was Jo Donmall with 36 points beating Margaret Kenchington on 32 points, who just pipped Helen Kenworthy on 31 points.

To finish the week we had another league match at home against Bigbury with a lot of close games, but we eventually emerged triumphant by eight points to six, winning four of the seven matches.
