Axe Cliff Halloween Stableford success for threesome

On a windy and partly damp day the ladies had a fun Halloween stableford competition going out in threes, writes Dave Bruce.

Lady captain, Caroline Bond, went out first and laid pictures of pumpkins at the side of each green.

Every pumpkin would either state that one score, two scores, or all three, would count, but every now and then there was also a ‘witch’ alongside which meant you had to double the score.

The wind proved too much for two groups on the exposed 16th hole. However, one of them scored more in the first 15 holes than other groups scored over 18 but, at least, they battled the elements to the bitter end.

The overall winners were the strong team of Caroline with Jo Donmall and Sandra Walker. Much fancied Helen Kenworthy, Jill Wellington and Paula Heasman stole second place from Di Rogers, Anne Jarvis and Stella Thompson in third spot.

Halloween cakes, appeared as if by broomstick, and were enjoyed by all as they came in with a much welcomed hot drink, What a scarey day!
