A varied week for the Axe Cliff ladies began with a Sheelah Creasy Match at Sidmouth who proved too strong for them by winning five games to two, writes Dave Bruce.

On Wednesday, again in glorious sunshine, they played ‘The Flag’. This, I am told, is a stroke play competition with the winner being the lady who gets the furthest around the course using her handicap and par for the course. Not a lot of golfers know this one! Barbara Cummings, using all her skill, got to the 19th green (not the bar) before using up all her shots to grab a very good win.

On a very hot Friday, to finish the week, the ladies were at Woodbury for a league match. Unfortunately, the course was very busy so play was slow in the draining heat, but our girls are made of strong stuff and kept their cool to win three-and-a-half to two-and-a-half, and they also won their reserve game.
