There was no regular competition last Wednesday for the Axe Cliff ladies due to the bad weather, but it was still a good week for our hardworking ladies’ section, who were in action at various courses around the county, writes Dave Bruce.

On Saturday, Caroline Bond and Stella Thompson played their first round of the Doris Wills Little, a matchplay County Foursomes competition at East Devon (Budleigh) where they took on a Woodbury pair who they defeated in a very tight contest that went to the 19th hole!

On Thursday, captain Jill Wellington, playing with former captain, Jo Donmall, played their first round of the County ladies vets four-ball better ball inter club knockout competition at Teign Valley where they met a very strong pairing from East Devon Golf Club.

They drove through flooded roads to get there and played in heavy rain and strong winds, at times, and battled well to win three-and-one.

The first Sheelah Creasy County Match was played, at home, against Fingle Glen in cold and wet and windy conditions, but the team handled it well to win four-and-three.
