Axe Cliff ladies played a Sheelah Creasy match against Fingle Glen at Axe Cliff and had a magnificent win of five-and-a-half to one-and-a-half, writes Dave Bruce.

The following Wednesday, with no time to rest, they played their Monthly Medal and the second round of the Axe Cliff Cup.

This proved to be a close fought competition with the first two netting 73 each, but with Jo Donmall, last year’s captain, edging this year’s captain, Caroline Bond on countback.

Not far behind, on nett 75, was Margaret Kenchington, who was captain in 2016.

On Thursday, a good contingent of 10 Axe Cliff ladies took part in the Devon County Ladies’ Vets Championships, held at Honiton Golf Club.

Our own Barbara Cummings is the Devon Vets captain and was delighted to present first and second prizes in the Bronze 1st Division to Axe Cliff ladies Sandra Walker and Caroline Bond, who were only separated on countback on nett 74.

Also last week, our lady captain, Caroline, thought everyone needed a rest so organised her Away Day at Elfordleigh Golf Club where they stayed for two nights and had two games with most taking part. A very enjoyable time was had by all. The weather could have been kinder, but play was possible on both days, despite some mist.
