At long last, the Axe Cliff ladies were blessed with a lovely day and clear blue sky brightening up our wonderful course, writes Dave Bruce.

The competition played was the first round of qualifying for the regional final of the Australian Spoons. The format for this competition is Stableford foursomes, and once the first round is completed the ladies can continue to put in cards to try and beat their original scores.

With the bracing wind, the scores, this game, were not brilliant, so all to play for in the weeks ahead. The first round saw Sandra Walker and Margaret Kenchington take first place with 28 points. Second were Jo Donmall and Paula Heasman with 24 points. Also scoring 24 points, and edged into third on countback, were the pairing of Caroline Bond and Jill Wellington.
