Archant

Having enjoyed perfect weather the previous week, the Axe Cliff ladies’ section saw the elements hit back with a vengeance last week, dishing up a wet and windy Wednesday for the latest meeting, writes Dave Bruce.

Sadly, the elements won the day and the meeting was cancelled, but resourceful ladies’ captain Caroline Bond organised the Special Valentine competition for Thursday morning for those who could play.

It was a fun game played in pairs as an 18-hole Stableford. The players had to follow the specific instructions on each green on how to use their Stableford points, such as multiplying them, adding them or taking the lowest or the highest.

No calculators were allowed, which you would expect from a former headmistress!

The weather was mainly sunny and there was only one short shower to negotiate, but the wind got up for the back nine.

The scores sounded good, with Barbara Cummings and Jill Wellington winning with 46 points on countback from Helen Gaudie and Paula Heasman, just a point less on the back nine.

Barbara and Jill were awarded with a romantic dinner for two with their favourite seniors, Rob and Simon.
