The Axe Cliff ladies’ section enjoyed a good turnout on Wednesday to play the fourth round of their Winter League stableford competition.

In the absence of the captain, it was left to Jill Wellington to lead the ladies off. The weather was good for the opening moments of play, but, after around four holes had been completed, a heavy storm struck!

Once the storm cleared, the conditions were playable until the weather took another turn for the worst.

Two of the early couples managed to play 15 holes, battling the bitterly cold wind and rain, but all the other ladies finished after nine, 10 or 11 holes.

The result was called, taking into account play over nine holes, and this left first place being shared by Stella Thompson and Margaret Kenchington, who both returned scores of 16 points.
