Axe Cliff Lady Captain's Day success for trio

Axe Cliff ladies enjoyed beautiful summer weather for the Lady Captain's Day, writes Dave Bruce.
Lady captain Caroline Bond chose a French theme – was that because the event too place four days after Bastille Day, or perhaps because of her recent excursion to France and her love of French wine!
The ladies started their day with croissants and coffee before heading out onto the course to be given a red, white or blue ball.
French flags were randomly laid out on the greens with the opportunity to double your score as long as you were still playing the ball of the designated colour! Sadly a few lost their coloured ball early on, thereby losing their chance.
The format was a three person Bowmaker game. The winning team was Barbara Cummings, Jo Donmall and Di Rogers who protected their balls wonderfully well.
Helen Kenworthy was the nearest the pin on the short par three 11th hole and Jill Wellington was nearest the pin on the challenging 18th.
A buffet lunch with a choice of French dishes followed the game and, of course, all the prizes had been brought back from France by Caroline. C’est la vie!
