The Axe Cliff men’s section played their monthly stableford competition, writes Peter Motson.

It was a close affair with countback called into play to determine the top places.

Both Jin Hong and Gavin Walker returned scores of 34 points, with Hong taking first place and Walker settling for the runners-up berth. Richard Gibbons was third.

Meanwhile, the senior section played the fourth round of their Winter League. The winners, with 37 points, were the pairing of Terry Jessop and Adrian Bishop.

They finished five points clear of second place Ron Bragg and Mike Jamieson with 32 and a further point behind, in third, were John Hannah and Peter Hornsby.

The ladies’ section contested a four clubs and a putter competition and this saw Margaret Kenchington take first place with the Helen Kenworthy the runner-up.
