TOM GLOVER, 28, head greenkeeper at Axe Cliff Golf Club, has just raised £1,000 for Devon Air Ambulance Trust, by playing seven golf courses in a day.

Tom, who plays off a handicap of 2, started his feat at the crack of dawn, teeing off at East Devon Golf Club at Budleigh Salterton at 4.25am.

By 6.30am he was at Honiton, where he whipped round in 1hr 10 minutes, and then on to Sidmouth, which he completed in 1hr 40 minutes.

He said: "There was no-one at East Devon or Honiton and only two groups at Sidmouth.

"My dad, who was chauffeuring me around for the day, went on ahead and asked them to let me through."

By 10.30am he was back on home turf at Axe Cliff where all the players knew what he was trying to do and let him through.

Tom added: "Everyone was fantastic. At Lyme Regis the seniors' captain Chris Walker and his wife went on ahead. to warn people I was on my way."

Tom went on to play Bridport and managed nine holes at Came Down, teeing off at 5.30pm.

"I would have liked to play all 18 holes there, but I think I would have been like a zombie then," he said.

To keep himself going he snacked throughout the day and got through somewhere in the region of 15 litres of water.

"At the end I was just looking forward to going to sleep," he added. But he only felt the after effects a couple of days later.

He got fit by walking the dog and says that he has always fancied walking to London in seven days, carrying his golf clubs, playing seven courses, but he thinks that his wife Cheryl, and daughter Mali, 21/2, might object!

Anyway, he said: "I heard there is a guy in America who ran 50 marathons, in 50 days, in 50 states, and I can't do anything to beat that!"
