Despite very inclement weather conditions, the Axe Cliff senior section managed to play all 18 holes of their Medford Trophy competition which, is played on medal format for the first nine holes and stableford format the last nine holes, writes Pete Motson.

Twenty-four players competed, (including the 88-year old ‘youngster’ Charles Whitbourn) resulting with first place going to Bob Graham with a superb low score of 35 on the first nine holes and, a very respectable 16 points on the second nine, (total 19). Second was Tony Strong with scores of 40 and 22 (total 22) while third place went to Nigel Garwood with 30 and 24 (total 24).

There were a brace of twos recorded, one by Bob Graham and the other by Bill Polley.

On a more sociable basis, the seniors section halved their Courtesy Trophy match with the ladies section, the ladies receiving 10 shots.

There were only four pairs on each side which was largely due to the cold, wet and very windy weather conditions.

However, all 16 golfers completed the round and each deserve a round of applause.
