Axe Cliff senior success for Strong, but only on countback from Povey

The Axe Cliff seniors September stableford was contested last week, writes Helen Kenworthy.

There were many cards of over 30 points and the leading pair both carded scored of 36 points.

Countback was needed to determine the winner and Tony Strong (9) got the nod over Nick Povey


Third place went to Mike Jamieson (26) with 34 points.

Recently in a Open Mixed Greensome at Yeovil Golf Club in a large field of between 40 and 50 pairings Axe Cliff duo Tony Strong and Margaret Kenchington scored 39 points and collected fifth prize.

A men’s stableford was played in mid-September and first place with 37 points was Dave Morgan. Jim Hong was second with 35 and the lone two was scored by Start Mackie.

The Axe Cliff ladies played the annual captain’s versus secretaries match play. The captain’s team of Glenda Board (captain), Helen Kenworthy, Margaret Kenchington, Jill Wellington and Helen Gaudie, emerged as 3-2 winners.
