Axe Cliff senior success for the in-form Brian Thompson

Friday saw much kinder conditions with the sun even shining, albeit intermittently, on some 40 seniors taking part in the monthly stableford, writes Dave Bruce.

All finished with smiles on their faces and only had two temporary greens to put up with thanks to the sterling work of our hard-working ground staff of Simon and Andy. Despite the temporary greens, the scores were very good, with two players ¬– Alan Morgan and Bill Polley – getting a solid 35 points each, but only taking second and third place respectively on countback.

That’s because the overall winner was the in-form Brian Thompson, with an amazing 40 points. What’s more, Brian also had four or five putts that brushed the hole without falling in so his score could well have been even more impressive. Brian was also the only member to get a two on his card. However, not satisfied with his three-footer on the difficult par three seventh, he also got another four-footer on the challenging par three 14th for his second two.
