Last Friday the Axe Cliff seniors travelled to Torrington and narrowly lost by three –and-a-half to one-and-a-half, writes Janet Dack.

All the matches went the distance, but in the end Axe Cliff had to settle for just one win from Rob Heard and Gilbert Cox, with the half point won by Mick Tomes and John Mant.

On Wednesday three teams, each consisting of 3 players, competed in a Texas Scramble at Windwhistle, and the trio of Malcolm Glass, John Pugh and Mike Jamieson claimed the third placed visitors prize with a nett score of 60.25.

Their prize of a hand towel and sleeve of balls each was worth £25.

On Sunday, at Yeovil, in a Open Mixed Greensome Stableford there were two wins for Axe Cliff.

Malcolm Glass won nearest the pin prize at the 13th hole and collected a useful rainy-day towel for the umbrella while Margaret Kenchington and Iain Bain continued their recent good run winning fourth prize, a golf shirt each, worth £35 with a score of 39 points.
