Axe Cliff trio retain the Silver Salver

The Axe Cliff seniors played a team event last week, writes Helen Kenworthy.

The teams of three were asked to count one score on the first six holes, two scores on the second six and all three scores on the final six holes. With the course looking really good after all the recent work scoring was expected to be close with the blustery wind proving to be a considerable factor.

In third place were Gerry Turner, John Pugh and Malcolm Glass with 66 points.

The ‘dream’ team of Tony Strong, Peter Knighting and John White could only manage second place with 73 points as they were pipped by last year’s winners Alan Vincent, Sid Pember and Nick Povey with 74 points . As a result, Vincent, Pember and Povey retain the Silver Salver for another year - keep it polished guys!

There were only two twos recorded by Rob Heard and Alan Vincent.

Meanwhile, the men’s scores were mighty impressive in their October Medal competition.

Alex Palmer took top spot in Division One with a nett 66 points score. Second was Anthony Hellier (67) and third, Stuart Mackie (69).

Division Two was won by Geoff Greenslade (66), second was Matthew Donnan (67) and third, Cyil Hellier (68).

There were six twos scored by Nigel Prtichard, Jin Hong, Alan Kenworthy, Peter Petherbridge, Alex Palmer and Mike Cottam.
