Despite the close result on the home leg of the Emerton Court match with Saunton, the Axe Cliff seniors found the opposition too strong on their home terrain last Tuesday past, writes Janet Dack.
Defeat is never easy to accept but all agreed it was reasonably tolerable to be beaten at such a superb location!
Last Friday 28 members took part in a stableford, incorporating a separate event, the Lavarack Stick, for those over the age of 70. The winner, in breezy conditions with an excellent 35 points, was Chris Jowett (16).
Two players returned scores of 33 points and second place on count back went to Mick Tomes (17), edging out Charles Whitbourn (28) who had to settle for third spot.
There were two two’s from Nick Stanton and the afore-mentioned Chris Whitburn.
