Axminster have enjoyed another successful period, being unbeaten in six mixed friendly matches, including three on grass for which club members should take great credit, writes David Harris.

We started with a narrow home win over the Nomads (67-64) with wins for Phil White, John Hill, Stephen Apsey, and Ann Clayton (20-13), Margaret Brown, Joan Quick, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (20-16), and Morrison Brown, Daphne Ryan, Les Clark, and Sheila Martin (19-15).

Next up victory at Taunton BC (90-69), with wins for Phil White, Alan Brown, Pam Clark, and Bob Sherborne (34-8) and Margaret Brown, Alan Taylor, David Harris, and Ann Clayton (28-7).

We then beat Donyatt at home (82-63) with winning rinks of Morrison Brown, Joan Quick, David Harris, and Les Clark (31-12), Pam Clark, Mary Preston, Frank Bridge, and Sheila Martin (23-16), and Brenda Edwards, John Hill, Pam Hunter, and Margaret Crompton (18-13) before winning at Crewkerne (83-75) with an excellent win for Margaret Brown, Daphne Ryan, Ken Quick, and Bob Sherborne (24-7). We then had another close game at Bridport where we ended all square (74-74) with a good win for David Harris, Pam Clark, Howard Keep, and Bob Sherborne (27-13) before winning at Dunkeswell (61-51) with wins for Margaret Brown, Mike Preston, and Margaret Crompton (21-8), Mary Preston, Ken Quick, and Stephen Apsey (19-8)

In the Over-60’s League we did not do so well losing at Starcross (22-40) before narrowly losing at home to Tiverton Borough (39-41) despite the great efforts of Mike Preston, Frank Bridge, and Sid Milburn who won well (22-16). We held our annual ‘ Day last weekend when we all enjoyed lunch and tea with a Round Robin that ended with Daphne Ryan winning the ladies’ prize and Bob Sherborne and David Harris sharing the men’s prize.
