Axminster bowlers enjoy fine spell of success

Apart from the mens’ Over 60’s heavy defeat against the strong ISCA side in their first game in the Devon League Season (44-131), Axminster bowlers have enjoyed a good period, winning three of the four mixed friendlies played and losing by just two shots in the other game, writes David Harris.

First up a visit from Dunkeswell that was won 90-34 with wins on all rinks; Phil White, Margaret Brown, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (32-11), Morrison Brown, Lilian Lovatt, John Hill, and Ann Clayton (31-12), and Les Clark, Brenda Raistrick, Pam Hunter, and Brian Clark (27-11).

Next up a close encounter at Madeira (50-52) with wins on two of the three rinks played - Morrison Brown, Alan Foster, Alison Glyde, and Margaret Crompton (22-15) and John Hill, Margaret Brown, David Harris, and Janet Parsons (20-13).

A visit from Feniton saw Axminster win 83-20, and again with wins on all rinks - Mick Heheghan, Brenda Raistrick, David Harris, and Bob Sherborne (34-12), Brian Cursley, Les Clark, Jean Kesterton, and Roger Legg (33-9), and Andy Curtis, Ann Clayton, Malcolm Denslow, and Brian Clark (17-9).

The final friendly was against Chardstock who were beaten 56-41 with wins for Les Clark, Martin Apsey, Neil Solomon, and Margaret Crompton (22-14), Phil White, Pam Hunter,Bob Sherborne, and Steven Apsey (17-11), and Andy Curtis, Lilian Lovatt, David Harris, and Brian Clark (17-16).
