Axminster bowlers enjoy victory over Chard

Axminster indoor bowlers have had precious little action of late owing to a number of cancellations for various reasons and so just tow matches have been played recently, writes David Harris.

The first of the three matches that were played was a meeting with Sidmouth that proved to a very close contest! Indeed, the mixed friendly meeting ended with a single shot between the teams with hosts Sidmouth winning 50-49!

There were two successful Axminster rinks at Sidmouth with the team John Hill, Mike Mellor, Alfie Day and Margaret Crompton, winning 17-16 while the team of Valerie Mellor, Gerald Knott, David Harris and Ann Clayton, won 15-14.

Next up there was a home fixture against a Severalls team that was beaten by three shots at 51-48.

In this, another close contest, there were wins for Morrison Brown, Tony Webber , Mike Mellor, and Gill Campbell (26-10) and Reg Crouch, Margaret Brown, David Harris, and Alfie Day (16-15).

That success was followed by a 64-37 win over Chard. In this contest there was success for Brian Smith, Mike Mellor, David Harris and Margaret Crompton (32-4) and Brian Cursley, Valerie Mellor, Neil Solomon and Les Clark (22-8).
