Axminster bowlers make winning start to new Exeter and District Over-60s League campaign

The Axminster men’s team have made a fine start top their new Exeter and District Over-60s League campaign, writes David Harris.

The team bagged a brace of wins with a 46-24 home success over Okehampton swiftly followed by a 37-29 win over Madeira C.

Against Okehampton, there were wins on both rinks - John Ellis, David Harris, and Doug Looskan (26-15), and Alan Gyngell, George Mabon, and Bob Sherborne (20-9).

Against Madeira C, there were also wins on both rinks - Alan Gyngell, David Harris, and Doug Looskan (22-16), and Jack Hare, Alfie Day, and Bob Sherborne (15-13)

There was just the one mixed friendly played and that too produced an Axminster success with Nomads beaten 112-50.

The home success were; Philippa White, Valerie Mellor, David Harris, and Brian Clark (43-7), Brenda Edwards, Pam Clark, Mike Mellor, and Ken Quick (28-16), John Packham, Barbara Mowatt, Jack Hare, and Budgie Hallowed (21-14), and Joan Quick, Ann Burn, Les Clark, and George Mabon (20-13).
