The latest period of play for Axminster Bowls Club has seen little success, writes David Harris.

There was a win in a home mixed friendly meeting with Ottery St Mary, who were beaten 70-37.

In the win over the Otters all the Axminster rinks were successful with Valerie Mellor, Ann Burn, John Hill and Alfie Day, winning 27-8; Daphne Ryan, Mike Mellor, David Harris and Margaret Crompton, winning 25-16 and Malcolm Denslow, Alan Foster, George Mabon and Ann Clayton, winning 18-13.

A visit from Ilminster saw Axminster beaten 58-50.

In what was an excellent contest, the best of the home efforts came from the rink of Alan Foster, Les Clark, George Mabon and Margaret Crompton, who managed a creditable 18-all tie!

The final mixed friendly of the period resulted in a 75-50 defeat to Honiton.

Once again this was a most enjoyable contest, but sadly, one without any Axminster success.

There was one other fixture played and that was an Over-60s League meeting with the very strong Exeter-based outfit Exonia who won 109-40.

Despite the size of the defeat there was some success enjoyed as, in the home element of the fixture, the rink of Mick Hennegan, Ed Backhouse, Brian Clark and Don Meylan did well to win 17-16!
