Axminster Indoor Bowling Club have enjoyed some very close encounters of late with somewhat mixed results, writes David Harris.

The sequence of matches began with an excellent win in the men’’ Devon Over-60’s League against Honiton (76-67) with wins for the home rink of Brian Cursley, Sid Milburn, Howard Keep, and Doug Looskan (25-21) and both away rinks - John Packham, Tony Payne, Eric Skeemer, and John Gough (21-14) and David Harris, Malcolm Denslow, Don Meylan, and Charlie Barber (16-15).

The Ladies were unlucky to lose a triples friendly match at Madeira (43-49) with all rinks narrowly losing - Joan Quick, Barbara Mowatt, and Judith Moffitt (13-14), Jo Barnish, Ann Clayton, and Jan Parsons (13-15), and Brenda Raistrick, Alison Glyde, and Margaret Crompton (17-20).

In the mixed friendlies there was defeat in a two rink match at Budleigh by just four shots (33-37) with a winning rink of Francis Sell, Brenda Raistrick, David Harris, and Brian Clark (21-13).

However, that was followed by a thrilling tie at home to Madeira (55-55) with wins for Ann Clayton, Margaret Brown, Alan Foster, and Neil Solomon (20-15) and Morrison Brown, Brenda Raistrick, Gerald Knott, and Margaret Crompton (22-20).

Unfortunately, Westlands could not raise a team for a men’s friendly last weekend.
