Axminster outdoor bowlers ended the 2107 campaign on a ‘high’, recording success on two fronts, writes David Harris.

First up, the club won the Carpet Cup at Kingsteignton, where Philippa White, David Harris, Ann Clayton, and Bob Sherborne were the successful quartet who won a tight competition on shot difference.

Meanwhile, the Axminster Over-60s Triples League men’s team ended their campaign as runners-up in Exeter and District League Division Five and so will compete in Division Four in the 2018 season.

The team’s season did end in defeat as they went down 46-30 to hosts Tiverton WE, but promotion had been clinched the week before with a 41-20 home victory against Cullompton. In that match there were wins on both rinks; John Ellis, David Harris, and Bob Sherborne (24-9) and John Hill, George Mabon, and Doug Looskan (17-11)

A mixed friendly was played at Severalls where Axminster went down 49-37. There was a winning rink with Philippa White, David Harris, Alan McLaren (guest), and Steven Apsey, securing a 24-10 success.

Other scheduled club matches at home to Chardstock and away at Culm Vale were both rained off!

Attention now turns to a new indoor season and the Axminster Indoor Bowlers are holding an Open Day on Saturday, October 7, running from 10.30am through until 1pm.

All comers will be made most welcome and all equipment will be provided. All folk need to do is turn up in flat shoes.
