The Axminster outdoor bowls season came to an end with a flurry of matches last week, writes David Harris.

Despite defeats in all but one of the four games it has been a good season and certainly one enjoyed by all connected with the club.

The first of the friendly matches was against Severalls who claimed a five shot win, 78-73. The successful Axminster rinks were; Morrison Brown, David Harris, and Bob Sherborne (22-14) and Alan Taylor, Steven Apsey, and Derek Pheby (20-15).

Next up a visit from Chardstock whom were beaten by 107-47. The winning home rinks were; Phil White, Daphne Ryan, David Harris, and Brian Clark (35-7), Brenda Edwards, Morrison Brown, Frank Bridge, and Margaret Crompton (32-7), and Les Clark, Brenda Raistrick, Pam Hunter, and Tony Cable (24-16).

Two heavy defeats were suffered to round up the campaign. First a 100-56 reversal at Ottery St Mary with no Axminster winners before a meeting with Culm Vale Iin a five rink triples contest that was lost 101-56 and once again there were no Axminster winners. However, in this match there were narrow defeats for Alan Brown, Margaret Brown, and Brian Clark and Phil White, David Harris, and Alfie Day – both rinks finishing 14-15!
