Axminster defeat Honiton with wins on all rinks played

Axminster bowlers won both mixed friendly matches played last week, writes David Harris.

First up a derby meeting with Honiton was won at home by a score of 81 shots to 42. There were wins on all rinks contested; Joan Quick, Mike Preston, and Stephen Apsey (28-9), Derrick Pheby, David Harris, and Marion Harris (20-8), Mary Preston, Ken Quick, and Margaret Crompton (16-11), and Pam Clark, John Chance, and Brian Clark (17-14).

Next up a trip to Kingsteignton resulted in a splendid 66-61 success (66-61) with wins for Joan Quick, Ken Quick, and Marion Harris (21-13),and Phil White, David Harris, and Sheila Martin (15-9), whilst Daphne Ryan, Pam Clark, and Bob Sherborne tied (16-16).

In the Over-60s Devon Men’s League Axminster defeated visiting St Thomas 38-30 with an excellent win for John Hill, Alan Taylor, and Sid Milburn (23-11), but the side lost away at Tiverton West End (30-52) with David Harris, Howard Keep, and Bob Sherborne unlucky to lose on the last end (16-17).

The men were well beaten in their two semi-finals in the County ‘Top Club’ and ‘Foxlands’ Competitions by the strong Feniton Club and we wish them well in the finals.
