Axminster Town started their pre-season campaign under new manager Dan Prettejohn with an entertaining fixture at home to Wincanton Town.
Although the Tigers eventually went down to a 3-2 defeat, it was a terrific workout for the players and, perhaps even more importantly, another sign that the social side to watching football is close to a full return.
Tiger Way has hosted some fabulous night in England’s Euro 2020 journey, hopefully with more to come, and there are more club events scheduled for July.
“The first-team have been training for a couple of weeks already and the second-team are back this week,” said chairman Andrew Hurford.
“It was an even game against Wincanton, we had lots of possession and started well in both halves, but Wincanton also showed they are a good side.
“From a social aspect, it was brilliant to have people at the club and things are starting to return to normality after Covid. We need supporters coming through the doors and the England games have been great.
“There is a buzz around the club because people have been away from a long time and you can see they are really happy to be part of the experience.
“We’ve got more events planned for July and so important for Tiger Way to be part of the community.”
Axminster Town play their next friendly fixture at home to Wellington Town on Thursday, kick-off at Tiger Way is 7.30pm.
This weekend will bring a Family Fun Day on Saturday, from 11am – 5pm, with free training sessions for young players. The Under-9s and Wildcats will be from 11am – 11.45am, Under 10s and 11s from 12pm – 12.45pm, Under 12s and 13s from 1pm – 1.45pm and Under 14s and 15s from 2pm – 2.45pm.
As well as the football, visitors will be able to enjoy a delicious barbeque, bouncy castle, a mini market of local sellers, disco and children’s entertainment.
On Sunday, July 11, Tiger Way will host a six-a-side tournament for adults and more information on all Axminster Town events can be found by contacting axminsterafcevents@yahoo.com
