Axminster ladies had an excellent win in their recent County ‘Lanes’ League match against Mid Devon, writes David Harris.
The ladies won on both rinks and also gained creditable ties on both away rinks in what was an overall 85 shots to 53 shots victory.
The successful home teams were Jean Kesterton, Mavis Swallow, and Margaret Crompton (28-5) and Margaret Ball, Denise Davis and Gill Campbell (19-10), while the away teams were Philippa White, Ann Burn and Ann Clayton (17-17) and Sue Bond, Barbara Mowatt and Alison Glyde (21-21).
The mixed friendlies produced two excellent tight games. A visit to Ilminster ended in a narrow defeat to the tune of a 62 shots to 53 shots final score, with Axminster bowlers beaten narrowly on all three rinks, before a 16 shot defeat at the hands of Madeira with the Exmouth-based team winning 67-51. In this match there was a victory for the Axminster rink of John Packham, Mavis Swallow, Les Clark and Jean Kesterton (20-13).
The third of the three recent mixed friendly matches was a 54-46 home success over Chard. In what was another tight match, there were wins for Reg Crouch, George Mabon, Ann Clayton and Brian Clark (23-12) and Philippa White, Alan Foster, David Harris and Margaret Crompton (16-15).
