Axminster men’s Over-60s team had an excellent win in their league match against Dawlish, beating the South Devon club 90-54 with success for both home teams, writes David Harris.

The home wins came for the teams of Brian Cursley, Mike Mellor, Doug Looskan and John Gough (26-11) and Mick Hennaghan, Alan Nabarro, David Pike and Don Meylan (23-15), while there was also success for one of the away rinks with Malcolm Denslow, David Harris, Derek Pheby and Norman Denslow, winning 25-9.

The ladies also enjoyed an excellent away win in their friendly game at Budleigh where they secured a 48-33 success and, in this contest, there was a terrific 35-14 win for the rink of Philippa White, Barbara Mowatt, Gill Campbell and Ann Clayton.

Although we lost two of our scheduled six friendlies through lack of players on both sides, we managed two good wins!

We started with an excellent home win against Taunton Bowls Club, (47-42) with wins for Morrison Brown, Jack Hare, Valeriie Mellor and Alfie Day, (16-12) and Brian Smith, Ann Burn, David Harris and Budgie Hallowes, (15-13).

We then beat Madeira, again at home, by 60 to 47 shots, with wins for Philippa White, Mike Mellor, David Harris and Ann Clayton (27-11) and Valerie Mellor, Morrison Brown, Les Clark and Margaret Crompton.

We then lost two away games, firstly going down away at South Dorset (43-78) with our best result there being a tie for Philippa White, Mike Mellor, David Harris and Alfie Day (20-20) and, finally, at Bridport (58-74), where the only success came from Alan Foster, Mike Mellor, Jean Kesterton and George Mabon, (21-10).
