Axminster men’s Over-60s team continued their unbeaten sequence in the Devon League with an excellent home win against Tiverton West End, writes David Harris.

The men won 35-3, with the winning rink being the one of George Mabon, David Harris, and Tony Cable (24-11).

In the mixed friendlies Feniton were unable to raise a side for their game with Axminster and the next outing, against Seaton, was rained off, so fixtures have been somewhat sparse!

However, the club enjoyed an exciting match at home to the Nomads which saw them beaten 80-70 despite sharing the rinks with wins for Phil White, Morrison Brown, Ann Clayton, and David Harris (22-18) and James Windsor, Margaret Brown, John Hill, and Bob Sherborne (16-15).

Axminster then enjoyed a resounding win against a very plucky Charmouth team who were playing their first match of the season.

In an overall 90-22 success, the Axminster winning rinks were; Bob Sherborne, John Hill, Pam Hunter, and Brian Clark (32-8), Brenda Raistrick, Ken Quick, George Mabon, and Steven Apsey (30-7), and Joan Quick, Phil White, David Harris, and Derek Pheby (28-7).

Congratulations go to Joan Quick who got through to the next round of the National Champion of Champions knock-out competition when she defeated Sandra Mott of Madeira at Exmouth.

Joan’s success is all the more impressive as it was her first game of the season on grass – well done, Joan.
