Axminster Indoor Bowls Club

THE club won two of the three mixed friendlies played, but again came unstuck away against ‘bogey’ side Taunton BC 38-67 in what can only be described as ‘a bad day at the office’, writes David Harris.

However, Axminster then enjoyed two good home wins – first against Severalls (62-42) with wins for William Cook, Morrison Brown, Ann Clayton, and Margaret Crompton (24-12) and Phil White, Pauline Knight, David Harris, and Brian Clark (22-13), and a tie for Margaret Brown, Daphne Ryan, Pam Hunter, and Bob Sherborne (17-17) and then against the South-West Umpires (61-40) with wins for John Hill, Daphne Ryan, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (23-10) and Lilian Lovatt, Ann Clayton, Ken Quick, and Jean Kesterton (21-12).

In a men’s mixed friendly AIBC lost narrowly at home to an Exeter and District Over 60s League representative side (49-53) with a winning rink of Bob Turpin, Gerald Knott, Geoff Clode, and Paul Moffitt (18-15).

The ladies’ excellent run in their County Foxlands League came to an end with their defeat against Sidmouth (final score unavailable) but the home rink of Joan Quick, Mary Preston, Alison Glyde, and Ann Clayton did well to win by five shots!
