Axmouth United continued their fine form with a 4-0 win at Dunkeswell Rovers.

United bossed the early stages of the game and were ahead from the penalty spot in just the eighth minute. When Matt Ellis was hauled down Jamie Hughes stepped up to tuck the spot kick away. Four minutes later Ellis played in Asa Sandman but his deft chip floated just wide of the mark.

The second goal did not take long arriving though as Hughes turned provider, sending over a perfect cross for Ellis to head home.

It was soon 3-0 as Ellis grabbed his second with a first time finish from Joe Berry’s lay off, all this inside the first twenty minutes!

Sandman, Charlie Clarke, Scott Dyer and Ellis all squandered opportunities before Clarke was again denied by the keeper when through one-on-one in the last minute of the first half.

After the break, United continued to dominate but they could only muster one further goal, scored in the 55th minute when Berry set up Sandman to wrong foot the keeper and tuck the ball away to make it 4-0.

United then went on to create a number of chances but a combination of superb goal keeping and poor finishing saw no further addition to the score.

United boss Laurie Forino said: “I’m very happy with the win and the three points. Perhaps we should, have scored more but credit must go to the Dunkeswell lads who worked really hard having gone three down so early. We played plenty of good football and hopefully can maintain our form which considering we were promoted at the start of the term, is very satisfying. Our back line was really solid again today

and all the lads were great but Matt Ellis stole the show for the Man of the Match

honours.”

On Saturday United entertain a Lords XI side who sit sixth, two points below United who are now just four points shy of leaders Woodbury who have played four more games than them.
