Axmouth United threw away a great chance to close the gap on Fresha League Division Five Leaders Exmouth Town when they were edged out by the odd goal in seven.

Having gone in 1-0 down at the break after a first half of few chances the home side took control of the game from the re-start and played wonderful passing football to shock the league leaders with goals from Jamie Hughes, Asa Sandman and Matt Ellis.

At 3-1 up United were in cruise control and the visitors looked to be a beaten side.

However, after dominating the first half an hour United eased off giving the visiting side the chance to show their title credentials as they stormed back scoring three times in the final 15 minutes to bag victory.

United boss Laurie Forino said: “We played them off the park for a great deal of the contest but then threw it all away in the closing stages. To lose like that is devastating, but we can take many positives fro our general play. It was a superb game I have no doubt for the people watching but a coaches nightmare given the end result! That said, with the sort of quality we displayed for much for the game we can take great heart and can still finish the season strongly and pinch a promotion place.
