Honiton RFC 1st XV enjoyed a healthy win against Plymouth Barbarians on Saturday afternoon, running out 77-13 winners at Allhallows. The Lacemen used their superior skills to out manoeuvre their opponents on a fine clear day.

Playing down the slope, Honiton received the kick off and, after an even first five minutes, they made inroads. Dobson caught a clearance kick on the right hand side of the field and the ball moved across to the right where scrum half Rice gathered the ball and offloaded out of the tackle to Guilbert.

A ruck was formed where Honiton gained a penalty advantage. Good work in the midfield allowed Sampson to set up De Large who crossed just right of the posts, for a try that Webber converted. Webber added a penalty shortly afterwards before scoring a try of his own. Turnover ball allowed De Large to launch Sampson to break the gain line before drawing the last man and offloading to Webber for another score. Locke scored from five yards out and number eight Rice scored two tries in quick succession, all well converted. Honiton conceded a penalty before romping back down the hill, Hannay scoring.

Honiton were 48-3 up at half time. Owen and Hannay scored but, as the game wore on, Honiton lost control. The Baa Baas scored two tries before Webber scored and converted, Dobson grabbed a try that was also converted as the score board ticked on to 77. All in all it was a fine performance.
