Back to normal in bowls league

PUBLISHED: 20:36 13 January 2011

After the long Christmas break, prolonged by the bad weather, things have finally got back to normal.

The internal leagues obviously have a large backlog of games to make up in the next three months - we just hope we have now finished with the extreme weather we have experienced over the last few weeks!

Just three club matches have been played since my last report but we have managed to win two of them!

Axminster started with an excellent home victory in a mixed friendly with Sidmouth (64-46) with a top rink of Lilian Lovatt, Marion Harris, David Harris, and Sheila Martin (31-13).

In the two County men's games Axminster lost their over-60s match with the strong Madeira Club (70-102), despite the great effort of the away rink of Graham Ayres, Geoff Clode, Norman Denslow, and Charlie Barber, who won by 26 to 19 shots. However, the club came back strongly to beat Kingsley (Westward Ho) by eight shots overall with victories by the home rink of Brian Downes, Gerald Knott, Bob Sherborne, and John Gough (19-15) and by the away rink of David Harris, Alan Preece, Brian Parsons, and Norman Denslow (28-12).
