The August Bank Holiday weekend will see the biggest race meeting of the year for Dunkeswell Kart Racing Club in association with Mansell Raceway - the prestigious annual South West Championships.

Last year, over 150 drivers, across six different classes, battled it out in excellent weather conditions to see who would be crowned Kart Racing Champion of the South West.

With the Lewis Hamilton/Jensen Button effect starting to kick in and new drivers taking up the sport, the grids for this year's event are expected to be the biggest ever.

The age range of drivers across the classes runs from eight-years-old in the cadet class to over 50 years old in the Rotax 177 class. The event will be contested over two days with individual class practice being held on the Saturday and the heats and finals being run on the Sunday.

In addition to the formal racing, the annual Mechanics Race will be held using the Mansell Raceway corporate karts on the Saturday evening. This event, although purely for fun, is just as fiercely contested. Teams made up of the dads, marshals and an all-star committee team, who will be hoping to retain their crown again this year, take part in this endurance event. As well as the racing there will be a bouncy castle, evening hog roast and a charity raffle in aid of Help for Heroes and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Spectators are warmly invited to watch all the action over the two days.
