Uplyme bagged a second successive Tolchards Devon league D Division East success when they claimed an empathic seven wicket win over visiting Shaldon.

Shaldon skipper Mark Couch won the toss, opted to bat, and saw his opening pair parted as early as the second over when Davies dismissed Thomas thanks to a smart slip catch by Richards.

The second visiting wicket to fall was very much down to a superb piece of fielding by Harvey Brimicombe. Uplyme skipper Steve Batey struck next and Shaldon were a troubled 26-3.

That was very quickly 26-4 as Batey bagged two wickets in two balls and he was soon again in the thick of the action clean bowling Tuffnell to leave the visiting side a desperate 32-6.

The seventh wicket was snare dafter Shaldon had enjoyed their best partnership of the match – 18 – with Harvey Brimicombe taking a terrific catch in the deep. The end followed soon after with the visitors all out for 85.

Skipper Batey took the bowling honours with five wicket for 26 runs from nine overs and there were two wickets for Dab vies and one each for Barraclough and Lee.

The reply was launched by Richards and Bellworthy who has put on 49 when the latter was bowled by Couch for 18.

O’Halloran announced his arrival at the wicket with a big six before Richards fell for a 33-ball 37.

Mark Batey was next in, and out, trapped leg before wicket for three , but that was as bad as it got for the hosts Steve Batey (16) and O’Halloran (12) saw Uplyme to an emphatic victory.

It’s Clyst Hydon next for Batey’s men and they head for third bottom Clyst Hydon sitting fourth in the table, just two points off the second promotion berth.
